    • Volunteering at Friends of Rappahannock’s Riverfest has been a fulfilling experience for me. For the past two years, I have been fortunate enough to be a part of this community-driven event. In 2022, my primary responsibility was to help clean up the trash during and after the event. I was amazed to see the turnout of people who attended the event, and I realized how important this event was for the local community. This year, in 2023, I was assigned to assist with separating the trash and compost bins. It was an eye-opening experience to see how much waste can be generated from a single event and how proper waste management could make a considerable difference. Riverfest was not only about raising funds for the Rappahannock River but also about celebrating the community’s accomplishments. The event featured live music, food, and raffles, making it a fun-filled day for all who attended. I am grateful to have been a part of such an amazing event that supports local environmental communities in Fredericksburg, VA.

  • COAR Environmental Clean-up
    • Community service is an essential aspect that not only benefits the community but also enriches the individual’s life. COAR, a program led by students at the University of Mary Washington, has been instrumental in promoting volunteerism among the students. Their annual event, “Into the Streets,” is a commendable initiative that encourages students to engage in community service and work towards making a positive impact. One of the projects under this initiative involves cleaning up the streets in downtown Fredericksburg, VA, and along the Rappahannock River. This project is critical in preserving the environment and maintaining the beauty of the city. Participating in this event during the Fall of 2021 was a memorable experience for me. It was an opportunity to work with other students, make new friends, and contribute to the community. Through COAR, the students at the University of Mary Washington have shown that small acts of kindness can go a long way in making the world a better place.

  • UMW Ecology Club: Member
    • Joining the Ecology Club at UMW has been an incredible experience for me. As a student-run organization, the club promotes environmental awareness and sustainability through various events and activities. From nature walks and gardening sessions to educational seminars, the club’s mission to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote green living on campus and in the local community aligns with my values.
    • Since joining in 2021, I have had the opportunity to participate in campus cleanups, short hiking trips, and arts and crafts sessions that have allowed me to connect with like-minded individuals who share my passion for environmental conservation. These activities have been fun and educational, providing me with tangible ways to make a difference and promote the importance of keeping our environment clean and healthy. The Ecology Club has been an excellent way to get involved in environmental conservation efforts and connect with others committed to a healthier planet.

  • UMW Asian Student Association: Treasurer
    • Taste of Asia is an exciting and popular annual celebration that offers a unique opportunity to experience and learn about Asia’s rich and diverse culture. Organized by the Asian Student Association and the James Farmer Multicultural Center, the event features a variety of activities, including a fashion show, dance performances, and a wide range of ethnic foods. As the treasurer of the Asian Student Association, I am proud to be involved in planning and organizing this important and successful event each year. Taste of Asia is highly anticipated among people due to the entertainment and education it offers. More than just a cultural showcase, the event provides a platform for individuals to come together and celebrate diversity. It is one of the highlights of the annual Asian Cultural Celebration Week and attracts a diverse audience of students, faculty, staff, and community members. With its vibrant energy and colorful displays, Taste of Asia is an experience to be noticed.
